Baptisia australis / Blue False Indigo

The unique qualities of Baptisia australis / Wild Indigo make it an ideal plant to add to most if not all urban/suburban gardens. Not only does Baptisia australis feature beautiful flowers in May and June which attract butterflies. It’s also a nitrogen-fixing, meaning it - with the help of certain microbes in the soil - can take the nitrogen from the air and pull it down into the root zone where it can feed the plant and surrounding plants. Another helpful quality especially for urban/suburban habitats that can have low sun exposure is Baptisia’s ability to grow in part shade as well as full sun.
