Liriodendron tulipifera / Tulip Tree

The Tulip Tree aka Tulip Poplar, is available at our Garden Center. A gem of a tree, actually the tallest hardwood tree in the Eastern US, Liriodendron tulipifera features a unique leaf shape and stunning tulip-esque flowers in June (from which the species name and common names are derived). The tree is easily identified in the dormant season by perfectly straight, perfectly round trunks - once you notice them, you can’t miss them and can’t avoid appreciating their beauty. The tree is also known for association with delicious morel mushrooms. Find and appreciate some nice specimens on the Hidden Brook trail in Beacon and the Trail of Trees in Phillipstown Park in Garrison, and/or plant one on your property if you’re looking for a beautiful, fast-growing deciduous tree.
