Rhododendron viscosum / Swamp Azalea
Rhododendron viscosum, commonly known as swamp azalea, is a deciduous shrub that belongs to the Ericaceae family. It is native to the eastern United States and thrives in swampy, boggy conditions.
This plant typically blooms in the late spring to early summer with funnel-shaped flowers that are white, often with a pinkish tinge, and attract various pollinators including hummingbirds.
The swamp azalea can reach heights of 5 feet and tends to spread through suckering, forming colonies. It has glossy, dark green leaves that turn yellow to red in the fall, adding seasonal interest.
