Vaccinium corymbosum x angustifolium / 'Chippewa' Half-High Blueberry
Vaccinium corymbosum x angustifolium / 'Chippewa' Half-High Blueberry
If you’ve ever done much hiking in the Hudson Valley, you’ve probably found wild blueberries along lowland, moist woods. Now you can have them in your garden! Blueberries grow best in full sun to part shade with acidic, well drained soil. Though self-fertile, a second cultivar is recommended for higher yields.
'Chippewa' is a half high/half low hybrid, making it an especially winter-hardy cultivar that grows slightly lower to the ground with medium sized, sweet fruit. This cultivar reaches a mature height of about three feet, making it compact enough for both ornamental and functional use in a variety of landscapes. Chippewa blueberries ripen early, around the beginning of July.
