Ginkgo biloba / Ginkgo
Ginkgo biloba / Ginkgo
Known as a “living fossil”, Ginkgo biloba has remained unchanged for more than 200 million years and wasn’t known in the West until 1690. Ginkgo is highly disease resistant and tough, which makes it a very common street tree. It has culinary value too, though, as the fruit is considered very healthy and is popular in its Southeast Asian native homeland. This medium-sized tree grows 50 to 80 feet tall. Ginkgo tolerates both sun and shade, and grows in most well draining soils.
