Rhododendron periclymenoides / Pinxter Azalea

If you keep your eyes pealed during the spring, you might be lucky enough to encounter Pinxter Azalea in our local forests. They make a great addition to the partly shaded garden, where their soft pink flowers will attract butterflies and hummingbirds. Beautiful as they are, native azaleas require specific conditions to thrive. Moist, acidic, well-draining soil and dappled shade is its preferred environment. Avoid hot afternoon sun. Grows 3 to 6 ft tall and can spread 4 to 7 feet wide.
